Lake Windermere

Conishead Priory

Conishead Priory, is a historic Gothic revival building set amidst tranquil woodlands and gardens. Known for its stunning architecture and spiritual atmosphere, it is home to the Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre, offering visitors a chance to explore its grounds, enjoy peaceful walks, and attend meditation classes or events.  They run free daily meditations and have a great coffee shop!

The Sir John Barrow Monument

The Sir John Barrow Monument, known locally as "The Hoad" s a prominent landmark overlooking the town of Ulverston and Morecambe Bay.  On a sunny day there are fantastic views of the Lake District mountains and, looking to the south, as far as Blackpool.  It is a medium intensity walk which will take around 30 minutes from Lonsdale House.

The village is also known for its racecourse, with race events taking place throughout the summer months, giving a festival atmosphere to the whole village over four weekends each year.

Renowned for its historic allure, Cartmel invites you to explore its medieval Gatehouse, wander among 16th-18th century architecture, and savour delights like the famous sticky toffee pudding from the Village Shop.
